La ética de la sociedad dominante en el mundo es utilitarista y antropocéntrica. Es decir: considera ilusoriamente que los seres de la naturaleza solamente tienen razón de existir en la medida en que sirven al ser humano y que este puede disponer de ellos a su gusto. Él se presenta como rey y reina de la creación.

La tradición judeocristiana reforzó esta idea con su “someted la Tierra y dominad sobre todo lo que vive y se mueve sobre ella” (Gn 1,28).

Mal sabemos que, nosotros los humanos, fuimos uno de los últimos seres a entrar en el teatro de la creación. Cuando el 99,98% de todo estaba ya hecho, surgimos nosotros. El universo, la Tierra y los ecosistemas no necesitaron de nosotros para organizarse y ordenar su majestuosa complejidad y belleza.
